Start a Romantic Relationship

Jack, 34; Brooklyn, NY

Jack wanted a coach to help him develop a more satisfying social life, and a more active dating life. In order to work on overcoming his shyness, after his first session, he committed to the assignment to say hello to ten people he had never seen before, and strike up conversation with a few of them.

After completing his assignment with great success, he was pleased to find that it was a lot easier than he thought it would be. With this strong social confirmation, he began work on defining his relationships requirements (ie. what he needed from a relationship, and what he was looking to give to a relationship). He spent time developing a full and happy life as a single guy, developing a life that he would like to share someday, but could revel in and enjoy at present.

Jack was working with a therapist while working with a coach, and found that the two professionals often supported and reinforced each other without realizing it. This helped Jack move closer toward his goals, and helped to confirm that he was moving in the right direction.

"I think of life coaching as a means to help you make sense of issues in which you're stuck. That is, a springboard for helping you move forward. The person who benefits from coaching is someone who knows that he/she wants to get somewhere, but isn't sure how, whether it be a person who wants to start a business, go back to school, deal with family issues, or other life matters."
