Nancy, 51, Chester, Vermont
President / Owner, Nursery and Beauty Product Company
As a small business owner, Nancy sought the help of a coach to help her organize and prioritize the many opportunities that come her way. She was running a pesticide-free nursery, developing and selling a variety of beauty and cleaning products, and planning an extension of the nursery that would provide construction services in local gardens. She found herself in a consistent state of overwhelm, with so many good, potentially lucrative ideas, yet frustrated that she couldn't do them all, today.
Instead of working to prioritize from the start, Nancy took a step back and employed a different tactic - allowing her ideas space. Part of the frustration she had been experiencing was that she was constantly planting the seed of an idea, but not giving it the space, water, or sunlight to bloom. By letting each idea have space, she could then sort through and decide which to complete, which to handoff to a staff member, which to discard, and which to postpone.
She found that by allowing this space, she was able to become more productive and happier working on the things she truly loved doing, while ensuring that other important business tasks were handled by others. In this way, she was able to stay at the cutting edge of her own business, while growing and motivating her team by delegating challenging tasks customized to their interests.
